Dinosaurs, Dinosaurs by Byron Barton, front cover

If you're starting dinosaur week with a two-year-old, start here. Dinosaurs, Dinosaurs by Byron Barton is a simple, bold introduction to all kinds of dinosaurs, and it's one of the first dinosaur books many kids fall in love with.

What it's about

Page by page, the book shows dinosaurs of every kind: big ones and small ones, ones with spikes, horns and long necks, and ones with sharp teeth. There's no complicated story, just a friendly tour of how different dinosaurs could be.

Why we like it

Barton's pictures are bright, flat and easy to read, with thick outlines and clear shapes. The words are short, so even the youngest listeners can follow along. It's perfect for pointing, naming and sorting.

How to read it with your little one

  • Point and ask, "Is this one big or small?"

  • Count the spikes, horns or teeth together.

  • Grab your toy dinosaurs and match them to the ones on the page.
