Letter E activities for toddlers: snack, play, book and free printable

E is our fifth letter. At ages 2 to 4 the goal isn't writing it. It's hearing the short /e/ sound at the start of words like egg, elephant and elf.

Here's everything we use for Letter E, all in one place. Pick one or two, or spread them across a week.

Talk about it

Talk About It: The Letter E. E makes a short /e/ sound at the start of words like egg, elephant and elf. You'll find a few questions to ask and a one-minute way to show it.

Snack

Letter E snack plate: scrambled eggs, edamame, an English muffin half, a slice of eggplant and a capital E made from English muffin strips

Letter E Snacks. Snack time is all about the /e/ sound, like egg. Your child hears the sound again and again, builds a big E on the plate and then eats it.

Play

Cup Lift, a project for toddlers from Sprocket & Sprout

Cup Lift. Hide letter cards under upturned cups. Your child lifts each one, says the letter and hunts for every E.

Every child is different. Please use your own judgment about what's safe and right for your family. Always supervise children during activities and while eating, and adjust foods for allergies, dietary needs and your child's age and chewing ability.
