The Busy Body Book by Lizzy Rockwell, front cover

The Busy Body Book: A Kid's Guide to Fitness by Lizzy Rockwell is a lively book about bodies in motion. It shows kids running, jumping, dancing and climbing, then explains what's happening inside while they do it.

What it's about

A group of kids play and move all through the book. Along the way, it explains how bones, muscles, the heart, lungs and brain all work together when we move. It ends by encouraging kids to keep their busy bodies moving every day.

Why we like it

It makes body science feel like play. Kids see children who look like them doing things they love, and every page is an invitation to get up and move. The simple diagrams give you easy words for what's going on inside.

How to read it with your little one

  • Act it out: when the kids in the book jump, you jump. When they stretch, you stretch.

  • After moving, put a hand on your chest together. "Can you feel your heart beating faster?"

  • For younger kids, skip the diagrams and just enjoy the movement pages.
