Book Review: Dinosaur Bones by Bob Barner

Updated: Oct 9

What's left of a dinosaur after millions of years? Bones! Dinosaur Bones by Bob Barner is a bright, rhyming book about the bones inside dinosaurs, inside us and inside the museum.
What it's about
Short, bouncy rhymes walk through dinosaur skeletons, what their bones tell us and how scientists find them. The back of the book has simple facts for grown-ups to share when kids start asking questions.
Why we like it
Barner's cut-paper art pops off the dark pages, with bold bones and bright dinosaurs. The rhymes are short enough for toddlers, and the facts at the back grow with your child. It's a lovely bridge from "dinosaurs are cool" to "how do we know?"
How to read it with your little one
Feel your own bones: "Can you find your arm bone? Your knee?"
Point to a skeleton and ask, "What do you think this dinosaur looked like?"
Read it after today's Fossil Impression Art and compare prints to bones.
