Book Review: Click, Clack, Moo: Cows That Type by Doreen Cronin and Betsy Lewin

Updated: 3 days ago

What happens when cows find a typewriter? Click, Clack, Moo: Cows That Type by Doreen Cronin, illustrated by Betsy Lewin, is one of the funniest farm books around, and a great way to kick off farm week.
What it's about
Farmer Brown's cows find an old typewriter in the barn and start typing him notes. The barn is cold at night, and they'd like electric blankets, please. When Farmer Brown says no, the cows stop giving milk. Soon the hens join in, and Duck ends up carrying messages back and forth.
Why we like it
The "click, clack, moo" sound comes back again and again, and little ones chime in by the second page. Lewin's loose, bold watercolors make every animal's face funny. Under the silliness, it's a sweet story about asking for what you need and working things out.
How to read it with your little one
Let your child say "click, clack, moo" every time it comes up.
Ask, "What do the cows want? Why are they cold?"
Count the animals on a page. Can you find six?
