Number 1 activities for toddlers: snack, play, book and free printable

One is the first number most toddlers really understand: one nose, one mouth, one you. At ages 2 to 4 the goal isn't writing the number. It's noticing one thing at a time, and touching each thing as you count it.

Here's everything we use for the number 1, all in one place. Pick one or two, or spread them across a week.

Watch

Talk about it

Talk About It: The Number 1. The big idea: one means just a single thing, and there's only one you. You'll find a few questions to ask and a one-minute way to show it.

Play

Hunt Count. A treasure hunt around the house. Your child gets simple prompts, finds everyday things and counts them out loud, touching each one.

Snack

Funny Face toast on a rice cake with banana and raisin eyes, a strawberry nose, a pepper smile and shredded cheese hair

Funny Face Toast. Our Number 1 day snack. Your child builds a silly face on toast, and you count as you go: one nose, one mouth.
