Spider Delivery Dump Truck

Updated: Oct 12

Beep, beep! The spiders need a ride to their web. Your little one loads the number of spiders you call out into a dump truck, drives them across the room and dumps them at the web. Then they count to check the delivery.

What you need
A toy dump truck (or a box on a string)
7 to 10 "spiders": pom-poms with pipe cleaners twisted on for legs, or blocks with a spider drawn on painter's tape
Yarn and painter's tape to make a web in a corner or on a chair
Optional: index cards with the numbers 1 to 7
How to do it
Make the web. Tape a few strips of yarn across a corner or between two chair legs, crossing in the middle.
Call a number. "The web needs four spiders today!" Hold up four fingers or a number card.
Load the truck. Your child counts the spiders into the dump truck, one at a time.
Deliver them. Drive the truck across the room to the web and dump it out.
Check the delivery. Count the spiders at the web together. Did we bring the right number? Then call a new number, up to 7.
Why we love it
Counting out a set number is harder than counting what's already there, and this game practices it again and again. Kids also get to move, push and dump, which keeps busy bodies happy.
Tips from our table
Start with 1 to 3 for two-year-olds. Work up to 7 for Number 7 day.
Let your child call a number for you to deliver, and make a mistake on purpose. They love catching you!
Pom-poms are small. Stay close with little ones who still put things in their mouths, or use blocks instead.
