Eye See You Snack

Updated: Oct 9

We're ending body week with a snack that looks right back at you! Your child makes a plate of silly "eyeballs" from banana slices and blueberries, then plays peek-a-boo with them before gobbling them up.
What you need
1 banana, sliced into rounds
Blueberries, halved or smashed flat
A smear of yogurt or cream cheese to act as "glue"
Optional: a rice cake or round cracker to turn it into a whole face
How to make it
Lay out the whites. Your child lines up banana rounds on a plate. These are the eyeballs.
Add a dab of glue. A tiny dot of yogurt goes in the middle of each round.
Add the pupils. Press a blueberry half onto each dot.
Make them look. Nudge the blueberries so some eyes look up, some look sideways. Ask, "Where is this eye looking?"
Play and eat. Say, "Eye see you!" and take turns eating one eye at a time. Count how many are left.

Why we love it
It's silly, easy and a fun way to wrap up the week's body talk. Eyes help us see colors, faces and the world around us. While you snack, ask your child to close their eyes and guess what's on the plate by taste alone. It's a nice callback to Wednesday's My Five Senses.
Make it your own
Count to 3: Make three-eyed monsters!
Whole face: Put two eyes on a rice cake and add a strawberry mouth.
Swap the fruit: Try kiwi slices with a blueberry in the middle.
A quick safety note: For kids under 4, halve or flatten blueberries and cut banana into thin rounds. Always have your child sit while eating. Skip anything your family avoids.
